
2026 Players of the Week

AVON, OH – Washington’s RHP Hector Garcia joined Andrew Herbert and Jeff Liquori as Wild Things to take home weekly honors this year. Hector Garcia dazzled in his first professional start, firing six scoreless innings in the Washington Wild Things’ 11-0 win over the Joliet Slammers on Saturday. The right-hander allowed just one hit while punching out six and walking none. On the season, Garcia is now 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA and 0.77 WHIP in 13.0 innings. He sits behind only teammate Kobe Foster (0.48 ERA) on the league’s ERA leaderboard, and behind only teammate Maddox Long (0.69 WHIP) on the league’s WHIP leaderboard. Garcia joined Washington in 2025, posting a 2.81 ERA in 48.0 innings last season. He was the Minnesota Twins’ 18th-round draft pick in 2023, and appeared in two games for the organization’s Florida Complex League affiliate that year. Garcia pitched collegiately at Hope International University in Fullerton, California, where he spent his final two seasons as a starting pitcher.

AVON, OH – Schaumburg Boomers infielder Kyle Fitzgerald led his team to a 6-0 week with ten RBI and four extra-base hits. He launched a 3-run home run in the first inning of Tuesday’s 12-6 win over the Down East Bird Dawgs. Fitzgerald went 3-for-5 at the plate in the series finale on Thursday, driving in three and stealing a base. Fitzgerald doubled in all three games of Schaumburg’s weekend set against the Mississippi Mud Monsters. He drove in two with his two-bagger on Friday, drove in another two and doubled on Saturday, and ran his double streak to three games with a first-inning knock on Sunday. Fitzgerald now has 6 doubles on the year, second-most in the league, while his 18 RBI rank third-best. The Brookfield, Illinois, native is in his fourth season with the Boomers. He joined Schaumburg after playing at the University of St. Louis.

AVON, OH –New York Boulders add to this season’s slate of weekly award honors for 2026. After two weeks of play, Boulders sit atop their respective division, and is home to the Frontier League’s Player of the Week winner. New York Boulder Fritz Genther drilled five home runs this past week, including three in New York’s 21-4 win over the Sussex County Miners on Saturday. Overall, he slashed .440/548/1.120 during the week while recording eleven RBI, scoring twelve runs, and drawing five walks. Genther drove in seven runs on Saturday, coming via a two-run home run, a grand slam, and a solo homer. He also homered on both Friday and Sunday, and went 4-for-5 at the plate in Wednesday’s 6-5 loss to the Ottawa Titans. This season, he leads the league in OPS (1.500), and is tied for third in home runs (5). Genther spent 2025 with the Boulders and was named second baseman for the All-Frontier League Team. He drove in 83 runs, third most in the League, and hit .311 last season. Genther originally signed with the Atlantic League’s High Point Rockers in 2024 and was traded to the New Jersey Jackals after just nine games. He signed with New York ahead of the 2025 season.

AVON, OH – It’s another week, another award for the Washington Wild Things. After two weeks of play, the Wild Things sit atop their respective division, and is home to the Frontier League’s Pitcher of the Week winner. Following Jeff Liquori, who took home the Player of the Week award last week, Washington’s Andrew Herbert earned the Week 2 Pitcher of the Week honors with a strong outing. Herbert punched out a career-high nine batters across seven scoreless innings in Washington’s 5-0 win over the Schaumburg Boomers on Saturday. The right-hander retired the first twelve Boomers that he faced and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before allowing a double. He conceded just one hit, one walk, and one hit-by-pitch as he earned his first win of the season. Herbert is in his second season with Washington. He pitched primarily out of the bullpen in 2025, carrying a 4.08 ERA across 39.2 innings and leading the Wild Things with 12 saves. He originally signed with Washington in May 2025 after pitching at Reinhardt University for four years.

AVON, OH – As the Frontier League opened its 34th season this past weekend, players f rom two of the longest tenured members dominated the action to earn the first 2026 weekly awards. Opening night in Evansville’s Bosse Field is always special, and this season the event created history. After appearing only in relief during his first two professional seasons, left-hander Grif Hughes earned the opening day nod and responded with a dominant performance. Hughes held the Florence Y’alls hitless in his six innings of work, striking out eight batters while allowing only one walk. Teammates Nolan Thebiay and Junior Cerda continued the strong work, giving the Otters the earliest no-hitter in Frontier League history. Hughes is with the Otters for his third season. Originally signed out of Carson-Newman University in 2024, Hughes made 49 relief appearances for Evansville in 2024 and the first month of 2025 before being acquired by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Liquori reached base in all four of Washington’s games and added a league-leading third home run against Joliet on Saturday. Liquori ended the first weekend of the regular season tied for second with a 1.000 slugging percentage and fifth with his 1.412 OPS. Liquori returns to Washington after appearing in 85 games for the Wild Things in 2025. He finished third on the team in doubles (17), home runs (9) and RBI (50) last season. Liquori posted double-digit home run figures during his final three seasons of college baseball and was named First Team Sunshine State Conference while at Florida Southern.

Infielder Peter Zimmermann had a busy week, beginning with tying a Frontier League record on Tuesday. In the series opener against the Florence Y'alls, the Grizzlies' first baseman homered three times to tie the league single-game record and drove in all five Gateway runs. Zimmermann continued to torch Florence, homering again on Wednesday while driving in two. He stayed hot in the series against Evansville, picking up four hits in a series win that punched Gateway's ticket to the playoffs. Zimmermann finished his week with four homers, nine RBIs, and three stolen bases while slashing .476 AVG/.538 OBP/1.048 SLG. Zimmermann, a St. Louis native, is the second Grizzly this season to win multiple weekly awards, joining Deylen Miley as a two-time winner. In his third season with Gateway, the 27-year-old has set career-highs in stolen bases and games played and has notched his second straight 20-home run season.

AVON, OH – Bryan Pena of the Ottawa Titans has been named the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week. Right-hander Bryan Pena started the first game of a doubleheader for the Ottawa Titans against the Sussex County Miners on Saturday and went the full seven innings without allowing a run to grab his fifth victory of the season. Pena was in elite form, surrendering only three hits and one walk while collecting 10 strikeouts. Pena is the third member of the Titans to win a weekly award and the second pitcher, following Grant Larson from the week of June 10th. His second season in Ottawa is proving to be the best of his professional career, collecting 82 strikeouts in 63 innings and a career-best 4.57 ERA. The former Washington farmhand currently leads the Titans in strikeouts and is tied for second in wins with five.

AVON, OH – Marc-Antoine Lebreux of the Québec Capitales has been named the Frontier League Player of the Week. Marc-Antoine Lebreux is one part of a trio of outstanding players that patrol the outfield for Québec. He has been honored as Player of the Week after leading the league with 14 hits over the past week, including multi-hit performances in five of the six games he started. In the series finale against the New England Knockouts on Sunday, Lebreux collected three hits in five at-bats with a double and two RBIs. He finished a 5-1 week going 14-for-27 at the plate with a home run, a double, and two stolen bases. His weekly splits came out to .519 AVG/.581 OBP/.667 SLG. Lebreux is the first member of the Capitales to win a weekly award in 2024 and the first since Steven Fuentes in June of 2023. In his third season with Québec, the Montreal native has blasted a career-high 11 home runs to go along with career lines in on-base percentage (.423) and slugging (.468). He also leads the Capitales in batting average (.289) and ranks third in stolen bases (17).
