Right-hander Anthony Escobar wins Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete-game shutout against the Windy City ThunderBolts on Friday. Escobar only allowed four hits in the series-opening victory for the Crushers, striking out two and walking none. He showed himself a master of inducing soft contact against Windy City while the Crusher offense lifted the team to victory. The win maintained Escobar’s perfect record, which now stands at 3-0. Escobar is well-known around the league for his solid pitching. A Frontier League All-Star in 2024, he has opened 2025 no less impressive. He currently owns a 0.72 ERA across his four starts and leads his team in both ERA and wins. He is the first Crusher pitcher to win a weekly award since left-hander Jack Eisenbarger last June.

Armani Smith has been a great pickup for the Florence Y’alls this season, providing stability at third base while adding another bat to an already potent lineup. Smith’s success shined above all this past week as he went 11-for-19 across five games, hitting one home run and driving in five runs. He was also a threat on the basepaths, stealing two bases as Florence took series against the Gateway Grizzlies and Evansville Otters. His final stat line from the week is .579 AVG/.652/.895 SLG. Smith, 26, is well-versed in the world of professional baseball. His affiliated experience began when he was just 20 years old with the San Francisco Giants organization. He made it to as high as Double-A ball before joining the independent baseball scene in 2024 with the Milwaukee Milkmen of the American Association. His first year in Florence has been fruitful, as he leads the team in batting average and currently ranks second in team RBIs. He is the first Y’all to win a weekly award this season.

OTTAWA, ON – The Seattle Mariners purchased the contract of Ottawa Titans’ infielder Jo Oyama on Monday. Oyama, 24, suited up in 12 games for the Titans to begin his professional career, hitting .273 with two doubles, one triple, and eight RBI. He has also swiped four bases, ranking third on the club. Oyama has strung together four multi-hit performances, while picking up two games of two or more RBI. On Opening Day, Oyama knocked in a trio to help the Titans to victory. In 2024, Oyama hit .296 with 13 doubles, four triples, slugged nine home runs, and knocked in 55 runs at the University of California, Irvine (Irvine, California) – leading the Big West with 59 games played. Oyama ranked within the top ten in the Big West in plate appearances (296), at-bats (223), runs (64), total bases (114), triples (4), RBI (55), hit by pitches (26), sacrifice hits (11), and extra-base hits (26). The 5-foot-6 left-handed hitter was named to the ABCA/Rawlings West All-Region Second Team, the Corvallis All-Regional Team, and the All-Big West Second Team last season – while also becoming the fourth Anteater to hit for the cycle on March 8 while adding a program record nine RBI in the game. The Naha, Japan product originally began his baseball journey in North America at Merced College (Merced, California) – where he was a lifetime .331 hitter with 40 doubles, 18 triples, 24 home runs, and 169 RBI across 201 games at the Junior College and Division 1 levels.
