Ozinga Field opened for the then-Cook County Cheetahs in 1999, with the Cheetahs rebranding as the Windy City ThunderBolts in 2004. Located ten miles south of Midway Airport and near the intersection of I-57 and I-294, Ozinga Field and the ThunderBolts was the home of current MLB hitting coaches Andy Haines (Pittsburgh), Guillermo Martinez (Toronto), and Donnie Ecker (Texas) and assistant hitting coach Morgan Burkhart (San Diego) along with MLB pitching coach Brendan Sagara (Texas) during their time in the Frontier League, as well as the Mets pitching coordinator Ricky Meinhold and the Angels’ pitching coordinator Dylan Axelrod.
