QUÉBEC WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
The Québec Capitales went toe-to-toe with the Schaumburg Boomers in the decisive fifth game of the Frontier League Championship, but Québec broke a ninth-inning tie to secure a 6–5 victory and clinch their fourth consecutive league title on Sunday night at Wintrust Field.
Québec struck early, with Jesmuel Valentin doubling to lead off the game and Kyle Crowl following two batters later with a two-run home run. Valentin delivered again in the second, sending a solo blast just over the wall to extend the lead to 4–1.
Schaumburg answered in the fourth, capitalizing on an error to spark a three-run rally. With two outs, Nick Podkul drew a walk before Alex Calarco ripped a two-run double. Kyle Fitzgerald then singled home the tying run to make it 4–4.
The Boomers grabbed their first lead in the sixth when Banks Tolley launched a towering homer to straightaway center, putting Schaumburg ahead 5–4. Québec battled back in the seventh, loading the bases with three straight singles before Justin Gideon drew a walk to force home the tying run.
The deciding moment came in the ninth. With two outs and two strikes, Gideon, who was later named Finals MVP, tripled to the wall in center, plating the go-ahead run and giving Québec a 6–5 lead. Closer Connor Roland entered in the bottom half and sealed the championship with a scoreless inning.
