QUEBEC SIGNS TWO AUSTRALIAN TALENTS

QUÉBEC CITY, QC – The Quebec Capitales are proud to announce the signing of two Australian players for the 2025 season: right-handed pitcher Brodie Cooper-Vassalakis and infielder Will Riley.

Brodie Cooper-Vassalakis, 24, has continued his professional career with the Brisbane Bandits of the Australian Baseball League (ABL) for the past two seasons, following a five-year stint in American college baseball with the Grand Canyon University Antelopes. Last season with the Bandits, as a right-handed reliever, he posted a 4.88 earned run average (ERA) in 28 innings pitched, with 30 strikeouts and 15 walks. At the age of 15, Brodie became the youngest player ever to play in the Australian professional league. With his two brothers and father also being excellent players, baseball truly runs in the family.

Will Riley, 26, is a versatile infielder who has also been with the Brisbane Bandits for three seasons, after playing three years in the American collegiate ranks. In 2023, he suited up for the Windy City in the Frontier League, where he maintained a batting average of .224 with 24 RBIs. During the 2024-2025 season with the Bandits, he raised his average to .315, with a slugging average (SLG) of .484. His strong offensive performance and especially his defensive reliability at several infield positions will make him a valuable asset to the Capitals.

“Both players had great seasons in the ABL and have shown steady progress over the past two years. Brodie is a reliable reliever who could be used in long relief, while Riley shined this winter. He can play a variety of positions and will bring versatility to our lineup,” said Patrick Scalabrini, currently on a scouting mission in Puerto Rico.

Both players are expected in Quebec City in time for the start of training camp, and fans will be able to see them in action starting in the first games of the season at Canac Stadium. With these new acquisitions, the Quebec Capitales reaffirm their commitment to offering high-level baseball and a captivating show to their loyal fans.
