QUEBEC SIGNS CATCHER ARTURO DE FREITAS
By Christian Gingras
QUÉBEC CITY, QC – The Quebec Capitales are pleased to announce the arrival of a new player for the 2025 season: Venezuelan catcher Arturo De Freitas.
A native of Maracay, Venezuela, De Freitas is a 23-year-old with extensive experience in affiliated baseball, having played for the Philadelphia Phillies since 2021. Known for his defensive reliability behind the plate, he will add depth and stability to the Capitales' roster. His presence will also provide manager Patrick Scalabrini with valuable flexibility in using last season's hero, Anthony Quirion.
During his professional career, De Freitas played over 210 games and accumulated over 650 at-bats. While his offensive numbers are modest, he makes up for it with a smart and combative style of play behind the plate. In 2024, he played primarily at the AA level with the Reading Fightin' Phils, where he continued his development against tough competition.
"Arturo is an excellent defensive catcher and could be a great compliment to Anthony Quirion," said manager Patrick Scalabrini. "Anthony highly recommended him, both for his work ethic and his personality. He also brings a lot of experience from affiliated baseball with the Phillies, which will be a great asset to our team."
With his experience, composure, and impeccable work ethic, De Freitas is ready to contribute to the Capitales' success this season. Whether it's guiding our pitchers or strengthening our defense, we have every reason to believe he will quickly earn the fans' respect at Canac Stadium.
