MAX MARTZOLF WINS PITCHER OF THE WEEK AWARD

Southpaw Max Martzolf was notified only a few hours before Sunday’s contest that he would be starting against the East Division leading Sussex County Miners. Martzloff dominated Sussex County despite the short notice, retiring all nine batters he faced to help the Jackals shutout their Garden State rivals. Sunday was Martzloff’s third scoreless outing of the week, including a 3.1 inning stint against the Miners on Friday. For the week, he recorded a league-leading 11 strikeouts while walking only two batters. Martzloff lowered his ERA by more than three runs with his dominant performances.

Martzloff signed with the Jackals five weeks ago after starting the summer by posting a 1.29 ERA over seven appearances for the Boonville Lumberjacks of the Perfect Game Collegiate League. Martzolf played four seasons for Florida Atlantic University, making 26 relief appearances this spring.
