ATLANTIC ALL-STARS STORM BACK TO WIN FRONTIER LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME
TROY, NY - The Atlantic All-Stars used excellent relief pitching and timely hits to come back and defeat the Midwest All-Stars 5-4 in the Frontier League All-Star Game at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Wednesday night.
The 32nd annual mid-summer classic started off as a pitchers' duel, with Atlantic right-hander Braeden Allemann and Midwest left-hander Cole Cook both pitching a scoreless first inning. The Midwest offense then took off in the second inning beginning with an RBI single from catcher Jose Alvarez. An error on a stolen base then gave the Midwest a 2-0 lead. Center fielder Victor Castillo then capped off the frame with an RBI single to put his side up 3-0.
Atlantic catcher Jason Agresti broke through with two outs in the bottom of the second with a no-doubt solo home run onto the left field concourse. Shortstop Kyle Crowl brought in another run on a groundout in the third to cut the Atlantic team's deficit down to one. The Midwest struck back with a one-out triple from shortstop Braylin Marine, who then came around to score on an Alvarez groundout.
In the fifth, Atlantic right fielder Ryan McCoy led off with a single and a stolen base before the newly-entered Austin Dennis brought him in with an RBI single just past the infield. The score remained locked at 4-3 until the Atlantic All-Stars finally broke through in the seventh. On an attempt to throw out center fielder and Home Run Derby Champion Stephen DiTomaso, the ball sailed into center field and allowed second baseman Luis Acevedo to score from third and tie the game at four.
Two batters later, third baseman and hometown All-Star selection Ian Walters came through with a clutch RBI single to give the Atlantic squad their first lead of the night. Canadian pitchers Cole Roland (Quebec) and Billy Duby (Ottawa) then closed the game out with two scoreless frames, giving the Atlantic All-Stars the 5-4 victory.
Jason Agresti was given the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player award after registering a pair of base hits and hitting a homer.
