2025 FRONTIER LEAGUE DRAFT RESULTS
CRESTWOOD, IL - After two perfect days in the Chicagoland area that were filled with baseball, the 2025 Frontier League Tryout Camp and Draft has concluded.
This year marked the 32nd time the annual event has taken place for the largest and longest-running of the Major League Baseball Partner Leagues. Over 300 players participated when the event opened on Tuesday, with 49 being drafted on Wednesday. There were 44 players taken in the Frontier League Draft last year, when the event was hosted in Washington, Pennsylvania.
The first two picks were made by the league's newest franchises, the Mississippi Mud Monsters and the Down East Bird Dawgs. With the first overall pick, Mississippi took infielder Roberto Gonzalez while Down East selected left-handed pitcher Tristan Walton with the second overall pick.
Gonzalez came onto the independent baseball scene last year in both the Atlantic and Pioneer Leagues. In all of his professional experience in 2024, he made over 300 plate appearances and had a respectable hitting line of .350 AVG/.407 OBP/.474 SLG. He also drove in 53 combined RBI in his 75 games played.
Walton formerly pitched at the University of Tennessee-Martin from 2023-2024. The 6-foot-3-inch left-hander was solid during his time in the Ohio Valley Conference, averaging over a strikeout per inning in both seasons he spent there. Walton debuted professionally with the Boise Hawks of the Pioneer League in 2024, striking out 7 in 9.2 innings of work.
Both players, as well as the 47 others drafted, will have an immediate opportunity to make an Opening Day roster in the league. The Frontier League would like to thank all of the players who came out to the event this week and congratulate all of those who were drafted!
