2010 Playoff Format

SECTION 1 – Divisional Playoff Format:The top two teams in each division will qualify for the playoffs, with the division winners receiving home field advantage (games 1, 2, & 5).  If there is a tie for the division title or the second-place team, the tie-breaking procedures described in Section 2 will be used. Teams will play their divisional opponent in the Divisional Series.

Both the Divisional Series and the Frontier League Championship Series will be best-of-five series.  Home field advantage (games 1, 2, & 5) for the Frontier League Championship Series will go to the remaining team with the best overall regular season record, using the tie-breaking procedure if necessary. For the Frontier League Championship Series, the highest remaining seed will have the choice of hosting games 1 and 2 or games 3, 4, and 5. If necessary, the tie-breaking procedures described in Section 2 will be used to determine the highest remaining seed. The two division winners will automatically be top two seeds.

SECTION 2 – Division Champion Tie-Breaker Procedure: In case of a tie between two (2) teams, the winner of the division will be determined by (i) winning percentage; (ii) if still a tie, head to head record shall determine winner; (iii) if still a tie, head to head record against each team in the division in descending order of regular season finish will determine the winner; (iv) and if still a tie, a one game playoff will be held the day after the regular season ends at a site to be determined by the coin toss of the Commissioner. In the case of tie between three (3) or more teams, the winner of the division will be determined by (i) winning percentages of all of the tied teams; (ii) if there are still three (3) or more teams tied, winning percentages against the other teams tied for the slot; (iii) if there are still three (3) or more teams tied, winning percentages against the other playoff teams combined; and (iv) if there are still three (3) or more teams tied, winning percentages against non-playoff teams, individually, in descending order of finish. If, during the tie-breaking process for three (3) or more teams, the process yields a tie between just two (2) teams, the process will revert to the head-to-head tie-breaking rules found above in this section.
