Sauget, Ill – With the 2018 Frontier League All-Star Week just around the corner, the Frontier League announces the 2018 Home Run Derby participants presented by St. Charles Automotive.

Frontier League Preview: Travis Harrison is in his first season with the Otters coming from the Minnesota Twins organization where the 1st round (50th) pick spent six seasons. Harrison has a career high of 15 home runs which he set while playing for Cedar Rapids (A). Jacob Wark is in his first season of professional baseball coming from the University of California. Wark has hit 5 homeruns and slugging .491 for the Freedom. Trae Santos comes to the Gateway Grizzlies after spending time in the San Diego Padres organization. Santos has 11 home runs on the year and is closing in on his career high of 14 which he achieved while in Fort Wayne (A). Chris Iriart is in his first season with the Normal CornBelters after having spent time as an Oakland Athletics’ farm hand. His numbers of 15 home runs and a .586 slugging percentage is on pace to top his current career highs of 22 home runs and .572 slugging. River City’s Paul Kronenfeld is in his first full season with the Rascals and paces the team with nine home runs. Kronenfeld is one home runs shy of his career high of 10. Southern Illinois Miners Chance Shephard enters the homerun derby with the second most homeruns in the league with 14. Shephard comes to the Miners after having spent two years in affiliated ball, his career high in homeruns is now 14 and counting. Will Kengor of the Traverse City Beach Bums will enter the Home Run Derby with 7 home runs and is on track to make a run at his career high of 14 homeruns which he set last season. Washington’s Roman Collins will be entering the Home Run Derby with a mark of 6 home runs and a .458 slugging percentage the Florida Atlantic product is currently sitting fifth on his team in home runs.

Former Cardinals Players: The River City Rascals are proud to be bringing in former Cardinals Players to participate in this year’s home run derby, hoping that it adds even more excitement and drama to this already fantastic event. These players bring a combined home run total of 812 over a combined 58 years of Major League Baseball experience.


Home Run Derby Rules:

Format: 8 Frontier League players compete in four rounds. Top four hitters with the most home runs advance to second round. Top two hitters with the most home runs advance to third round. Hitter with the most home runs in the third round will advance to the finals and represent the Frontier League. 4 Former Cardinals players compete in three rounds. Top two hitters with the most home runs will advance to the second round. The top home run hitter remaining after the second round will advance to the finals and take on the winner from the Frontier League.

Timing: 90 seconds per round.

Advancement/Scoring: Ties in any round broken by a 60 second swing-off; if a tie remains after swing-off, batters will engage in successive three-swing swing-offs until there is a winner. Each batter is entitled to a 20 second time out in the second and third round.

River City is offering a special ticket package for the event. For $50.00, fans get a ticket to the Home Run Derby autographs for all the Frontier League players as well as the former Cardinals.

The 2018 Home Run Derby will take place on Tuesday, July 10 at CarShield Field in O’Fallon, Missouri.

The 2018 All Star Game will be Wednesday, July 11 at CarShield Field 7:00 pm CST.
