SAUGET, Ill. – The Frontier League Championship Series kicks off on Tuesday night when the Schaumburg Boomers play host to the Florence Freedom for game one at Boomers Stadium.

Schaumburg comes into the series with a 3-1 FLDS win over the 2016 Frontier League defending champions, the Evansville Otters. Florence also comes in with a 3-1 record win over Washington. The Boomers won the season series against the Freedom 4-2. The series will guarantee lots of excitement as the Boomers and Freedom both finished with the best records in the Frontier League this season (Schaumburg 66-30, Florence 61-35).
Florence set a franchise record with their 61-35 record this season behind skipper Dennis Pelfrey. The Freedom are in search of their first Frontier League Championship in their 15th year team history. Florence tied for second with Normal in League batting average at .280. Their 473 RBI was second in the league just behind Schaumburg. The Freedom finished third in stolen bases behind River City (162) and Windy City (151) with 138.
Schaumburg looks to be the first team in Frontier League history to win 3 championships after going to back to back in 2013 and 2014. They also set a franchise record with 66-30 this season. The Boomers led the Frontier in 2017 in overall team batting average, runs scored and RBI with .289, 547 and 508. Schaumburg also led the led League in ERA and strikeouts with 3.58 and 821. The Boomers recorded the most saves with 32 and surrendered the least home runs this season with 63.
Despite finishing with the best two records in the Frontier League, neither team led in fielding percentage. The Boomers finished third behind River City (.981) and Washington (9.77) with .976. The Freedom were sixth with .975.
