Joliet Evens Series, Shutout Washington

JOLIET, IL – The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy looked to even up their series against the Washington Wild Things after dropping Friday’s contest.

Luis Cruz toed the rubber for Joliet opposed by Ethan Gibbons. Cruz dominated early and went on a stretch where he struck out 4 of 5 Wild Thing batters. Rashad Brown ripped a one hopper up the middle that caught Cruz on his left thigh and then after feeling discomfort departed under his own power.

In a scoreless game, this forced Slammers’ manager Jeff Isom to go to Tyler House, an Illinois native, to eat up some innings and House did more than just that. The offense for Joliet remained quiet along with Washington’s until the 5th, when Luis Diaz poked a ground-rule double to right field to make it 2-0 Slammers. Melvin Rodriguez followed a few batters later with a bullet to right field to plate Diaz from second base.

In the 6th Joliet tacked on one more after Danny Zardon reached on an error and then scored on a ball to the backstop to put Joliet up 4-0. Tyler House continued to be masterful on the mound, inducing a lot of weak contact and pop ups. Skylar Janisse completed the game for Joliet by pitching a scoreless 8th and 9th as the Slammers rolled to a 4-0 victory to even the series.

Joliet’s pitching was the real story tonight as Cruz, House, and Janisse teamed up to blank the Wild Things. Tyler House received the win for Joliet and Ethan Gibbons got the loss.

Tyler House is our player of the game, posting 7 2/3 innings of shutout baseball.
