ThunderBolt Jake Fisher and Otter John Schultz Named Pitcher and Player of the Week

SAUGET, Ill. – Just one series removed from the All-Star break and ThunderBolt Jake Fisher and Otter John Schultz have been named Week 10 Frontier League Pitcher and Player of the Week as chosen by Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation.

Jake Fisher of the Windy City ThunderBolts earns his honor with a dominant 7-1 Bolts win over the Washington Wild Things last Friday. Fisher who is in his fourth season with the ThunderBolts, went eight total innings allowing just four hits, five strikeouts and one run (unearned) against the hot hitting Wild Things.

The Norman, Oklahoma native is the third ThunderBolt (second pitcher) to be named Pitcher or Player of the Week this season. Jake has been a proven leader for the Bolts after several fellow starters have been purchased by affiliated ball clubs this season.

With 11 starts on the season, Fisher is 5-4 and has an ERA of 3.46 (14th). He hangs his hat on fifty-seven strikeouts (9th). Fisher was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the 22nd round in 2013 before joining the ThunderBolts.

Evansville Outfielder John Schultz also earns his first Player of the Week award. Schultz returned to the Otters after playing in the 2017 Frontier League All-Star game on July 12th. The Otters traveled to Sauget, Illinois to take on the Gateway Grizzlies in three game series last weekend. His most notable outing came on Sunday when Schultz went 3 for 3 with a homer, two RBI, two runs scored and two walks. Over the course of the series, the West Lawn, Pennsylvania native went 6 for 10, with a double, a homer, two RBI, six walks, and four runs scored.

On the season, Schultz is hitting a commanding .358 (3rd overall). The lefty has twelve doubles, a triple, six homers, thirty-seven RBI, twenty six walks, and thirty four runs scored.

Schultz is a three time All-Star and was selected in 33rd round by the Miami Marlins back in 2011 and joined the Otters in 2013. In his Frontier League career, he is hitting .294. Schultz is the fourth Otter this season to be named either Pitcher or Player of the Week.

The ThunderBolts return home to Crestwood on Tuesday to host the Evansville Otters.

Windy City took the series 2-1 from Washington as the Otters did the same at Gateway. The Otters and Bolts currently sit second place in their respective divisions. The Bolts have a one game lead on the Wild Things while the Otters have a three game lead on the River City Rascals who are currently third
