Marion, Ill. – The Southern Illinois Miners are proud to announce the creation of the Southern Illinois High School Coaches Hall of Fame, presented by Southern Illinois Healthcare, honoring the high school coaches throughout Southern Illinois with inductees on every Tuesday this season at Rent One Park for Hall of Fame Tuesdays.
On every Tuesday night that the Miners are at home in 2017, beginning on May 30th against Florence, two high school coaches from any sport will be inducted into the Southern Illinois High School Coaches Hall of Fame with a special presentation on the field before the game, where they will be given an award to celebrate their tireless commitment to youth athletics in Southern Illinois.
As part of the creation of the Hall of Fame, Suite 201 at Rent One Park will be dedicated as the “Southern Illinois Healthcare Hall of Fame Suite,” and will feature photos and memorabilia from the region’s best coaches.
“Southern Illinois needed a place where the great coaches from this region could be recognized,” Miners manager and COO Mike Pinto said. “This is a great opportunity to showcase and honor some of the very best coaches in all high school sports. These men and women put in countless hours, heart and care into the molding of their students with skills that translate beyond athletics into life skills. We are proud to be able to honor these outstanding coaches and leaders.”
Inductees will come from all sports, not just baseball. Fans are encouraged to make suggestions for candidates to be inducted through the team’s social media channels.
The Southern Illinois Miners are the 2016 Frontier League West Division Champions, the 2014 and 2015 Frontier League East Division Champions and the 2012 Frontier League Champions. They have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year award three times since their inception, and also set a new Frontier League attendance record in 2007, their inaugural season.
