Jim Edmonds – A four-time all-star, eight-time Gold Glove award winner, and World Series Champion, Jim Edmonds had a long and successful playing career, spending seventeen years in the bigs. Known mostly for his outstanding defense, Edmonds shined in his eight years with the Cardinals – racking up six of his eight Gold Gloves. He was no slouch at the plate either finishing his career with 393 home runs and close to 2,000 hits. Fast forward to today and you will find Edmonds with his very own sports bar which donates proceeds to the St. Louis Back Stoppers organization, a non-profit who help the families of fallen first responders.
Rick Ankiel – Being one of the few individuals to ever succeed at both hitting and pitching in the show, Rick Ankiel was drafted by the Cardinals in the second round of the 1997 season. After finishing second in the Rookie of the Year award race, Ankiel continued pitching for the next few seasons until converting to outfield in 2005. Ankiel produced 244 hits and 47 homers for the Cardinals. Today, Ankiel has recently released a book on his time in the Majors titled, “The Phenomenon: Pressure, the Yips, and the Pitch that Changed My Life.”
Skip Schumaker – Spending eight of his eleven year playing career with the Cardinals, Skip Schumaker was one of the hardest working individuals of his era. Playing an unheard of spread of six different positions, including 4 innings pitched, Schumaker was truly one of the best utility players in the game. Finishing his career with a .278 batting average in over 3,500 plate appearances, Schumaker’s talents helped the Cardinals win two World Series rings in 2006 and 2011.
Fernando Tatis – The only player to ever hit two grand-slams in the same inning in MLB history is next on our All-Star line-up for the STL Legends Game. Fernando Tatis’ inning is still talked about today in the baseball community. Debuting in 1997 and playing eleven years in the majors, Tatis spent three with the Cards. Most notable is his 1999 season in which he accomplished the feat that no one else has yet to repeat. The third basemen compiled over 800 hits and 117 home runs in his entire career. His most memorable moment however is one where he helped those in his home country by building a new church in the Dominican Republic.
