Kimborowicz Picked Up By Dodgers – Southern Illinois Miners
Southern Illinois right-hander becomes 45th former Miner to join a major league organization
The Southern Illinois Miners are proud to announce that right-handed pitcher Josh Kimborowicz has been picked up by the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, becoming the 45th former Miner and first in 2016 to join a Major League Baseball organization.
Kimborowicz leaves the Miners as the Frontier League’s leader in wins, having gone a perfect 8-0 with a 2.33 ERA in 10 starts this year. Southern Illinois won each game that he started, with Kimborowicz allowing 51 hits in 61 2/3 innings, walking 29 batters and striking out 45. He was one of six Miners voted on to the West Division all-star roster, and one of eight total all-stars for Southern Illinois this year, the second-most in a season in franchise history.
“Our whole staff is incredibly happy for Josh,” Miners manager Mike Pinto said. “This is a great opportunity for him with the Dodgers organization, who really wanted him. His great, fun approach to the game and the hard worker he was will be missed here, but he will always be part of the Miners Family.”
With a 34-17 record entering the all-star break, Southern Illinois will resume their 2016 Frontier League regular season schedule on Friday night, July 15th, on the road when they take on the Washington Wild Things at 6:05 p.m.
The Southern Illinois Miners are the back-to-back Frontier League East Division Champions and the 2012 Frontier League Champions. They have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year award three times since their inception, and also set a new Frontier League attendance record in 2007, their inaugural season.
