The Frontier League has released its schedule for the 2016 season, which will feature 12 clubs playing a 96-game, full-season format.  Opening day for the 2013 season will be on Thursday, May 12, with the regular season concluding on Sunday, September 4.

Regular season action begins with the Lake Erie Crushers hosting the River City Rascals and the Windy City ThunderBolts entertaining the rival Joliet Slammers on Thursday, May 12.  The remaining eight clubs begin play on Friday, May 13 with Evansville, Florence, Gateway, Normal, and Southern Illinois hosting games the opening weekend.  The Slammers open their home schedule on Tuesday, May 17 while the Traverse City Beach Bums receive their championship rings on Friday, May 20.   River City, Schaumburg, and Washington also open their home schedules on May 20.

The 2016 divisional alignment will revert back to the format from 2011, when the Frontier League last played with 12 teams.  The defending champion Beach Bums play in the East Division along with Lake Erie, Washington, Joliet, Windy City, and Schaumburg.  Both of the 2015 division winners are in the West Division for 2016, with Normal and Southern Illinois being joined by Evansville, Florence, Gateway, and River City.  Clubs play their divisional opponents 12 times each, with six games against each inter-division team.

The 2016 All-Star events will begin on Monday, July 11 and conclude with the Y’All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 13 at UC Health Stadium, home of the Florence Freedom.

Highlights of the 2016 schedule include a rematch of the 2015 Championship Series beginning on May 31 when the River City Rascals look for revenge in Traverse City.  Other special events include a Memorial Day afternoon game where Evansville visits Gateway; a split-city, day/night double-header between Schaumburg (day) and Joliet (night) on Tuesday, May 24; the 101th birthday of Evansville’s Bosse Field on Friday, June 17; and Independence Day contests in Florence, Gateway, and Schaumburg.

The regular season concludes on September 4 with Gateway, Joliet, Lake Erie, Normal, Schaumburg, and Southern Illinois hosting games over Labor Day weekend.

The 2016 playoffs will begin on Tuesday, September 6 with a potential game 5 of the Championship Series scheduled for Tuesday, September 20.
