The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, are pleased to announce that opening night starter Seth Webster has been signed by the Atlanta Braves.

Webster picked up where he left off in 2014 by twirling seven shutout innings in the season opener on Thursday night, allowing just three hits while walking one and striking out six to earn the win in a 2-0 decision. The Louisiana native is expected to make a start in the Atlanta minor league system possibly as soon as Monday.

Webster becomes the second player to be signed by a Major League organization during the season. Edwin Carl, who is a member of the 2015 Schaumburg roster, was signed by the Dodgers following two appearances with the Boomers in 2013. Webster, a third year member of the Boomers, was a key cog in the back-to-back Frontier League Championships. The Boomers were 5-0 in all five career playoff starts for the right-hander. All five wins were in series clinching games. The most memorable playoff performance came in a winner-take-all wild card game against Lake Erie in 2014. Webster struck out 13 in a 1-0 complete game shutout while allowing just two hits.

The 6-5 hurler leaves Schaumburg with his name emblazoned in the single season and career record books. Webster is the team’s career leader in wins, starts, strikeouts, innings, and complete games. Webster, 25, closes this portion of his professional career with a record of 14-6 to go along with an ERA of 2.88 in 31 starts spanning 200 innings. Webster struck out 145 hitters over parts of three years with the Boomers.

The Boomers (1-0) continue a season opening seven-game roadtrip tonight with the first of three games in Pennsylvania against the Washington Wild Things at 6:05 p.m. The home schedule opens on Friday, May 22 against the Lake Erie Crushers. The evening begins with a ring ceremony to honor the 2014 team and ends with the first of 21 firework nights. Ensure your place in the fun by calling (847) 461-3695 (FOWL). All games can again be heard on AM 1410 WRMN with the voice of the Boomers, Tim Calderwood. Broadcasts begin with a 15-minute online only highlight show followed by a 15-minute pregame radio show.
