The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy- are happy to announce that their All-Star starter Blair Walters has signed with the Atlanta Braves organization. Walters leaves the Slammers with a 2.74 ERA and allowed only 59 hits in 75 and 2/3 innings. He struck out 54 and had a WHIP of 1.15. He was selected originally in the 11th round of the 2011 draft by the White Sox. His best stint with the Sox came in 2012 with Class A Kannapolis when he finished with a 2.88 ERA and only 61 hits allowed in 72 innings. Walters then moved to the Houston Astros organization and made one start in AAA Oklahoma City in 2013.
There is no word yet on where Walters will be sent with the Braves for the rest of the season. The most likely possibilities are the High-A Lynchburg Hillcats of the Carolina League or the AA Mississippi Braves of the Southern League. He joins five other former Slammers currently playing in Organized Baseball like Aaron Dott, Jake Sanchez, Geoff Brown, Joe Meggs and Matt Fields.
Joliet will open the second half of the season at Silver Cross Field on Friday at 7:05pm against Windy City. It will be a Fireworks Friday and a Zombie Night at the ballpark as well. Saturday’s 6:05pm start will be another Saturday Night Live and a Girls Scout and Family Sleepover Night. Sunday’s 1:05pm start will be a Family Day and Cancer Survivors Day. Slammers action this summer will be broadcast live on 1340 WJOL and wjol.com and the audio/video feed of home games this season can be seen at independentprofessionalbaseball.com.
