LOVES PARK, IL – The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, are proud to announce that the contract of outfielder, Jose Martinez, has been purchased by the Atlanta Braves organization.
Martinez spent the 2013 season with the Mississippi Braves, the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, where he was named to the All-Star Team before being released at the end of the season.
“I’m really happy for Jose,” said Aviators Manager, James Frisbie. “This is what it’s all about is getting these guys back to affiliated ball. We hate to see Jose leave, but I’m glad he will be able to have another chance to make it to be big leagues.”
Martinez led the Aviators in batting average, stolen bases, and slugging percentage this season. In 28 games this season, Martinez scored 17 runs while cranking out 35 hits, six of which were doubles, with three home runs and fourteen RBIs. He also stole six bases for the Aviators this season.
“The Braves aren’t just getting a great player, but they’re getting an even better person,” said Frisbie. “Jose was the nicest guy on the team and is a true professional.”
Martinez will be assigned to the Braves’ High-A affiliate, the Lynchburg Hillcats, where he will continue to play in the outfield.
